Dress Up Day!

When given this assignment, I at first, had no idea what I was going to wear! I went to one of my friend's dorm room and looked at her clothes and found the dress that I wore on dress up day. The dress was hippie-like pattern that was long sleeved and was colored in deep greens and purples. I also wore black tights and Ugg boots. The dress, Ugg boots, and tight combination is something that I would never normally wear.

Only a few people said something about what I was wearing. All of the people that made a remark were those that knew me. One of the girls I know said, "Meagan, what the hell are you wearing?" This surprised me because the girl was very bold in telling me that she did not like what I wore. The other girls in my hall also looked at me and laughed. While I did not take this personally because I was doing an English experiment, I was startled by how many people openly laugh at others who are wearing clothing that is different from the norm.

While walking around Davies and to my usual classes I was astonished to see how many people give other people the once-over because of what they are wearing. I thought that this was rude. I also did not appreciate people judging me because of what I was wearing instead of who I was as a person.

By the end of the day I can say that I ended up liking the outfit that I considered out of my norm. This experiment has taught me that being different and dressing different is okay. And from now on I am going to try very hard not to judge others based on what they wear. It is unrealistic to say that I will never do it again but this experiment has taught me the importance for being who and what you are and not changing for others just because they do not like what you look like.
